Irish fishing industry leaders tell Oireachtas the Sea-Fisheries Act is unworkable, unfair, and damaging sector-wide confidence
The 2006 Sea-Fisheries Act came under fire from fishing industry leaders and Oireachtas members during a charged meeting of the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs in Leinster House on Tuesday, 01 July.
Senior representatives from the Seafood Ireland Alliance and the Irish Seafood & Fishing Alliance warned the Act has created a dysfunctional regulatory regime that criminalises minor infringements, drives foreign landings away from Irish ports, and threatens the viability of the entire sector.
