Today’s Irish Examiner reports in a comprehensive feature that some of the biggest fish processing companies in Ireland are set for a fight for survival by confronting the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority.

In response, IFPO CEO Aodh O Donnell comments “Sadly, the Irish fishing industry is beset by a perfect storm of issues and lost opportunities. Meaningful consultation between government and stakeholders is urgently called for. We need to have a level playing field approach to control and regulation. It’s in our national interest that a harmonised control and management protocol is applied to all fishing vessels in Irish waters. The control process needs to reflect the developmental and sustainably needs of an industry that is critical economically for coastal communities.”
